UN World Habitat Day
A cozy little wooden birdhouse hangs safely from the sturdy branch of an oak tree, complete with a tiny round doorway and a cheerful baby bird peeking outside. All around the woodland hideaway, delicate butterflies flutter gracefully above a cheerful garden of blooming daisies and leafy vines.
Designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 and first observed in 1986 on the first Monday of October, World Habitat Day reminds people worldwide that every living creature deserves a safe, secure, and clean shelter. Whether it is a home for human families in growing towns or a natural nest for neighborhood wildlife, caring for our shared habitats protects our planet for the future.
